I'd like to see merom in MBP

I'd really like to see the conroe, and conroe replacement in a mid sized tower/media center.

something bigger and better than the mac mini, more powerful than the imac. no integrated display. good upgradability and of course.... priced between the imac and tower. accounting for NO display included, ie about same price as imac. or even a little less.

In Europe they are running out of space and they do not want to see all the nasty stuff end up in their eco system. Europe has said if you can not recycle it, you have to take it back.

    Then goes here:

    http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2002920133_ewaste09.html

Anyway, the real problem is the debt-money system that demands ever cheaper throwaway products, evermore cheaplabour, evermore GDP growth regrdless of impact on quality of life, evermore downsizing, evermore sloppy enironmental protections as the globe suffers under continual insolvency.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Grip-Death-Slavery-Destructive-Economics/dp/1897766408/sr=8-1/qid=1161964407/ref=sr_1_1/202-0351376-3343053?ie=UTF8&s=books

We don't have to live in mudhuts, but we DO need to stop throwing away PCs, iPods, mobile phones, etc. as if they're apple cores, no pun intended.

Well unless a non-glossy screen is an option I won't be getting one.

In fact until they do my current Core 2 Duo iMac will be my last Apple - period.

I don't need my computer to also double as a mirror.

    And no, I don't want a mini, or a laptop, and I can't afford a Pro.

...Uh, Internet law 2001-B... because he's the international scapegoat of this decade. He must be blamed for all unfortunate and tragic events, no matter when, where, how or why they occured. Including and not limited to natural disasters, "acts of God", actions by foreign powers and anything else that blame could possibly (no matter how illogically) be assigned to. Because, dammit, if there were anyone else sitting in that oval office, the world would have progressed into a virtual utopia by now.

My predictions for the next presidency: A variation of the same old ****, completely different guy.
    LOL!

Every cell phone is tracked .... don't know how many store it on the local device (out of reach for anyone except you), but the tracking data from every cell phone is stored on the providers servers and/or government servers - law enforcement could access that information in almost real time.

Presumably with a warrant and not on the fly at the side of the road without a warrant. Although I remember reading about some sort of site the gov has set up with the carriers where they can get info without warrants (patriot act thing).

This settlement may well be the final 'installment' in the Creative Story, who have been losing money like it's going out of fashion. Since they cannot sue Apple again over the menu system, they need to start making money the 'old-fashioned way' by selling products. But of course, in the near future Creative's major rival will not be the iPod, but Microsoft's Zune and Sandisk players...

Then again, disregard all of the above since they'll probably try suing Microsoft instead, to keep afloat for another year!

Out of all the iPhone renditions I have seen this one is by far the best looking (certainly doesn't stray from familiar territory) and the ONLY one I could actually picture on the shelf at the Apple store.

Just not too hot on the Noka-style slide out keypad, I would prefer if it slid out from the back or swivelled down. And if they brought out a clamshell as well I would be a very happy chappy.

If Apple gets it right this will be the *ultimate* music phone.

I would think that the decision isn't necessarily the "generic-ness" of the term "App Store", rather the real test (IMHO IANAL) is the pervasiveness of the term before Apple decided to brand their product as such. While it may be simple to say "well heck, it's an app store, of course they'd call it the app store". One could argue that apps (short for applications) has been around forever. The word "store" and it's meaning as well. However, given that the two terms are common and the function of the store is not unique, that no one up until this point has used the term generically (note use of the term, not necessarily that someone has actually tried to apply it to a business) shows that the combination of the two terms in this context is indeed unique.

At least that would be my argument :)

I myself am not too excited by this...

An overpriced movie store doesn't seem like something i would ever use.

But whatever they have in their bag of tricks for streaming may prove to be worth taking a look at.

"Windows" was a generic term in the computer industry before Microsoft had any trademark.

Yes, but that doesn't matter. The word Windows is no generic IT word, while app(lication) is. That's the difference.

"Apple" can't be used to trademark a fruit, but it can be used to trademark a computer. "Windows" can't be used to trademark "windows of a house" but it can be for an operating system. "App store" can be trademarked for a brothel but not for a store that sells computer applications.

    wow! impressive.

I guess people value convenience over quality. That's great for Apple. That confirms it will be a success.
For me I rather buy DVDs or wait for hi definition downloads, but I guess many people out there are satisfy with lower quality.
    Can't wait for ITV tough.

Creative declares 'war' on Apple's iPod (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/11/18/creative_vs_apple/)

I guess Creative just broke even. :)

In other news, Creative has been granted permission to use the "Made For iPod" logo on their upcoming line of iPod accessories.

You know that article came out in 2004 right? Just making sure

    http://tomshardware.co.uk/2006/09/11/four_cores_on_the_rampage_uk/index.html

For me, working with one of the first quad core systems was amazing. No matter how many applications you run at the same time, the system reacts to user commands quickly. Some applications require half the time to finish tasks. To me, it's like being catapulted a year into the future and is unlike the past few years when computing power increased only marginally. Intel pumped out 30% more performance with Core 2 Duo and will double that again with Core 2 Quadro soon.

Seems like things bode well for Clovertown. Fingers crossed the hideously inefficient FB-DIMMS dont screw it up.

I agree - a thing called capitalization - they have to develop an iPhone and it would be very stupid not to follow the iPod concept. That's why it takes so long I think...

But - there is nothing in this "news" that's close to "revealed"...

arn very rarely posts info from his own sources. When he does, that info is always correct. I'd bet a good deal of my savings that the iphone will look very similar to that pic.

Funny, I just read in USA Today I beleve it was, that law enforcement officers actually prefer people use the apps...saying that even if the app alerts the driver and they change their driving habits for a short time, say, slowing them down from speeding for a few miles...it's a good thing, and they encourage it.
Besides...who the h*ll is the government to tell Apple what they can and cannot do with their business? Regulations are one thing...such as safety regs and such...those are needed, but Christ...this is over the line.

This has been reported on multiple times. Even before apps certain stretches of road are well known for the speed traps they (usually) have. The result is people always slow down (annoyingly to like 10 mph UNDER the speed limit) just in case the cop is there. Same thing with the apps. People go "Oh no! a speed trap!" and slow down. Since the purpose of the speed traps is to enforce speed limits it still works for them, they just don't get any money for the tickets.

aaaaa gimme my core2duo macbook :)
I'm not buying the ordinary coreduo because I heard that it has a lot of bugs that intel will only fix on the new processor.
And I can wait, so if it doesn't come this month, I don't care waiting another one, who knows even a year :)

You deserve a bad rap:rolleyes: There is nothing illegal going 5 under. It is illegal to be going 20 over. If you get caught, that is like an auto revocation of your license to give you an idea how serious it is

And you call us laughable? How about you start practicing safe driving habits before you kill someone bud:cool:

What is with your sense of you doing nothing wrong? seriously...the issue lies pretty much all with you as far as I am concerned...[/B]

I'm not saying that my speed was legal, but after she brakechecked me, she dropped her speed to under 55mph which is illegal at least in portions of Michigan; there's a thing called a minimum speed limit.

    -Don

And then there's a thing called the speed limit. Doesn't matter if she did 45, 55, or 65. She's still in the right.

You're getting your 16 year old, testosterone panties in a twist yet you admit that you went over the speed limit that you cherish so much by at least 20mph. You admit you (but not in so many words because you have that 16yo complex of I gotta be right) drove recklessly all to teach a lesson that is really not yours to teach. That is for the highway patrol and driving school.

Regardless of what your inexperienced mind may believe, she was in the right and actually doing nothing wrong. She was traveling the speed limit. She was minding her own business until a little 16yo know-it-all comes along driving with minimum experience and equally inexperienced driver next to him.

Unfortunate for you this seems to be a running trait in your family. Inexperience. Just because your uncle is a sitting judge doesn't make him a god. On the contrary, he's as idiotic and inexperienced as you.

Now kid, no matter how much you slap those jaws of yours together you are wrong. We don't care that your mommy was sitting next you or that your uncle is the judge. Go ahead and drive however you want. Frankly I see your kind every day on the road.

I'm that guy over in the left lane driving 70. I'm that guy you have to race up to and ride my bumper and zoom past me flipping me off.

But I'm the guy that's laughing at you because honestly at the end of the day, you are just a little 16yo with a giant ego stuck up your rear.
