all I care about is getting my MB/P with Merom inside of it. I'm starting school with a POS laptop, and I need someone to tell me that I'll be ordering a new computer on the 12th. PLEASE!

The problem wasnt the 100 song limit. It was the RIDICULOUS usb 1 speed and the way itunes would delete and then reupload every song on your phone if you wanted to add 1 song to the playlist. I have a slvr and waiting for 100 songs to fill up would have been insane. It takes practically 1 minute per song. Overall the itunes integration with the phones was horrendous, pretty much unusable. Once you finally got the songs on the phone it was a good music player, but getting the songs on the phone is a nightmare. Maybe Apple knew all along that they would enter the phone market and intentionally jacked up itunes phones?

Possible MacBook Pro update. Keeping the MacBooks the same as they are.

back here in the UK Hoover were able to trade mark Hoover as their name despite the fact that hoover is the generic term for a vacuum cleaner!

Well, we ask for a "Kleenex", not a tissue.

We drink a "Coke", not a soda.

We use a "Band-Aid", not an adhesive bandage.

We like to "Roller Blade", not inline skate.

Although we don't "Hoover" here in the United States, I think "Hoover" falls into the "Coke, Kleenex, Band-aid, etc." catagory in England.

What about a hotshot stock trader making a killing working 80+ hours a week on salary. Should we be allowed to work this much without overtime?

Probably not. If the bankers had worked sensible hours they'd have been better integrated with society as a whole which would almost certainly have made the financial crisis less likely.

I've seen people like the OP get pulled up and receive whopping great tickets from the cops. To say the least they look terrified about what their mum will say when she finds out. It makes me laugh.

After a bit of thought I think I'm siding with Apple... here's why:

The strongest argument I've read against the trademark is that 'App Store' is describing the very thing it actually is. Someone likened this to renaming 'Windows' to 'Operating System'.

However what isn't appreciated is that 'App' is in itself an abbreviation. It's debatable whether apple popularised it not but thats not the point. Basically it would be like renaming 'Windows' to 'Ope System'.

I'd argue that 'Ope System' could be trademarked whereas 'Operating System' couldn't...

Nice try. But "app" and "application" have been synonymous for more than a decade. They have always been used interchangeably. "Ope System" and "Operating System" have not been used interchangeably.

Sounds like he doesn't drive, and just wanted this topic for attention. But I could be wrong..

On the other note. You wonder why insurance for young/new drivers is so high.

I'm taking my test on the 24th May (UK), my insurance has been quoted to me at 1700.00 for the year. This is because I am male, and 20. So I must be a "racer boy"... I'm not sure what it's like in America. But the reason I get quoted that kind of insurance is because of drivers like you. It's very irresponsible of you to drive like that, and then brag about it. But I don't think it even happened.

Surely Conroe needs to go somewhere in Apple's lineup? Great value, fast and soon to be quad-core.

ya, there really appears to be no space for the Conroe chip in Apple's lineup... at least with the decisions they've made so far in updating the iMac to Merom.

Compare Core Duo vs. AMD. At least until someone does a Core Duo vs. Core 2 Duo benchmark.

hmm, so it looks like the core duo is roughly similar to the athlon 64 x2 2.0Ghz.

Soo... the 2.16 Yonah is around 1.86Ghz Core 2 Duo speed. Kind of figures, considering Merom is supposed to come in ~30% faster.

Not that great, but not that bad either.

UHM... iOS is far more open-source than windows is. Nice try... Android might be more open-source though, I'm not sure.

What exactly is your definition of "open source" anyway? There aren't really degrees of being open source. Something is either open source or it isn't. The code for iOS is not open source and so isn't any more or less open than Windows.

Some of the components that ship with iOS are open source (Webkit being the most notable and the one that gets the most press.) But make no mistake: iOS is not open source. At all.

That's not to make a qualitative judgment about iOS versus any other mobile OS, BTW. This annoying marketing crap coming from Google and others lately that push the notion of open source somehow being inherently a better way to go for anything is irritating. There's no need to defend iOS for being closed. Not everyone thinks that's a dirty word. It's a better mobile OS than any of the open source alternatives and there's no reason to be shy about it being proprietary. It is what it is.

If you need 16 cores, shouldn't you get a rack with four Xserves (once the new Xserves with Intel-processors become available)?

Sure, getting the same in one (quiet) box for the price of one box would be preferable but this is not available yet.

Or, do you mean you want 16 cores but right now you are not willing to spent what it takes to get it.

(Sorry for the tone, I would like to have 16 cores for my work as well.)What tone? Yeah I don't want to spend that much. I'm thinking $4k max for an 8 Core-In-One Mac Pro. I'm sure I'll be pretty happy with 8 until I find out I still have to wait a lot for video compressions to happen. Then I'll be right back here complaining about how 8 cores isn't enough either.I'm with you there. Although I don't do video compression but Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign work, I'm sure Adobe will manage to deliver a version of CS3 that still feels sluggish under 8 cores.Glad I won't be alone. :) We are an unusual small group finding a reason to need a lot of cores. I think those who don't don't understand us.I still wonder if all this video editing is personal or for profit. :rolleyes:Personal. I'm just trying to archive Television recordings - simple. But currently it takes longer than the shows run IE about 3x time spent watching, then crushing each show. That's a very time consuming thing to get hung up on. And I'm sure it makes no sense to 90% of those here.
