a ipod nano with phone function really isnt anythign amazing and would be well behind current technology, they should be fully going for that crazy multi device that was patented lately. at least that would be up with or infront of other technology.

    2 iPhones,
    - iphone (nano) base phone and cheaper, limited abilties
    - iPhone (multifunction device) more expensive and more pda like.

The way I see it is why buy a product when it is being improved (no matter how little or much) and should be the same price or lower... most likely within the next few weeks?

Unless Apple adds a Blu-ray drive in their MBP's (not gonna happen, at least at this point) I doubt we'll see a price increase in those systems when they get teh C2D upgrade. As far as other computers are concerned, I'm not sure--doubt macbooks will increase either since their price tag is so attractive to consumers and competitve with other brands. It seems that the mini has had the most fluid pricing structure, but I could be wrong.

I'd love to have a trackpad but I do really like the Magic Mouse. It's not super ergonomic, of course, but I like it more than most other traditional mice.

I know a lot of people that like them. That's cool. But it's not ergonomic at all. Not even a little. The only Apple mouse I ever liked (loved actually) was the ADB II. In my opinion, it's the last and only good mouse Apple ever made.

You, sir, get it. The technologies create new capabilities that will adapt to the market. The luddites are only capable of seeing innovation as a loss.

    yup, things are just changing.

why have 1,000 books on your shelf when you can toss it on a kindle? someone who wants 1,000 books on their shelf instead of on a kindle is just a hoarder ;)

    So?

The other company has got Apple trade marked. They are both in common use but are protected when used in the computer industry.

    http://www.apple.com/legal/trademark/appletmlist.html

    http://www.microsoft.com/about/legal/en/us/intellectualproperty/trademarks/usage/general.aspx

Apple isnt using Ms for using the term windows, something apple said way before MS. You also dont see apple using MS for using Word, or OFFICE either.

MS can NEVER be orginial they just steal ideas from apple.

Like I said, they could easily call their app store WinApp Store or even Mobile App Store and it would be fine, but they want to be cute and copy apple and just call it app store.

    Two things

    1) it seems like people are overexagerating with the "having to slide the clickwheel up to call anyone" thing. Everyone I know uses a contact list almost exclusively, something which could very easily be incorporated into the standard ipod interface (already is sort of). Calling the odd number i'd be fine with sliding it up. Perhaps they could introduce some really innovative contact list stuff software wise to make it even less necessary to "dial" people.

    2) Maybe all the touchscreen stuff we think is for the video ipod is really for the phone and the dialpad and clickwheel both use a touch sensitive thing to work.

Isn't that kind of like throwing the baby out along with the bath water? This is why an all in one seems so wasteful to me.

Who has room for two external displays on a desk that already has a 27" iMac?! Dual outs on the MBP would make much more sense, although achieving it may be more of a technical challenge in terms of GPU power.

    I'm thinking of a 3-monitor gaming/sim setup. No desk - think cockpit.

I prefer to see the apps pulled. Some apps are best not available. Maybe we could add others, like the locations of the various whorehouses, and best corners for buying drugs.

It certainly doesn't hurt to add to Apple's No Porn standards.

This is not even close to the same as having locations of whore house or drug dealers. However I would guess the police might like to have these apps.
Where and what police are doing is a matter of public knowledge. Posting where they are is not illegal or going against some other standard.

Honestly, can you try to post without arguing against claims I never made? That is at least 3 times now and it shows a lack of honesty or reading ability. I am not sure which.
    The above text contains:
Strawman argument/claiming what I said wasn't true without providing any proof/Insults

I never said it was going to Mac only (though you have accused me of that twice). I agreed with the insinuation that it could be. I never said manufacturers would have to add it separately. I did say that the article you posted said only that it would be available to all and that it didn't say all would add it. Mainly, I said that, because you know, the article doesn't actually say that. Here's another recap for you:
Person 1: Thunderbolt = Mac Only
    You: Bingo
Me: Post to an article showing that it won't be Mac only
You: Claim you were talking metaphorically to save your ass
Myself and Econgeek: Explain to you why what you saved your ass with won't be true
You: Go on a rampage of insults

I think we are done. No point in debating someone that doesn't understand what he is reading and also makes up things to reply to. Arguing against someone that uses strawman arguments or misses common subtleties in language is bad enough. Arguing against someone that is making up things to argue against is pointless.Pot, meet kettle.

Wow, this is really, really bad. I've no idea how any company would think this was acceptable. There's no way this was simply an oversight.

    Absolutely unacceptable.

The simple fact is that I should not have to obey a 70mph speed limit if I don't want to. Why would I even bother driving a car that can hit 186mph (with the speed governor removed, with the governor top speed is 155mph) at 70 mph? A Ford Fiesta can hit those speeds, what's the point of fast cars if you're going to follow the speed limit in them?

    Really?

    Seriously...I mean really???

You have NO business driving a vehicle with your state of mind

They're competitive with the Mac Pro. Very competitive.

Mac Pro - you get a lot for the money. More pricey than most users are willing to spend, but unquestionably, "a lot of bang for the buck".

Still, my point is that Apple isn't trying to remain competitive in regards to grabbing sales or going outside of their niche market. Apple has diehard fans that will purchase whatever they sell, no matter what. They don't need to attempt to go outside of that faction because they'll have a hard time swaying general computer users who are used to Windows already or don't want to pay the premium price. Apple gives you a lot of computer for the price, but the price is still above and beyond what anyone else will charge you. Then it boils down to asking yourself "do you want to pay for the Apple experience" and some people say 'yes' and others say 'no'. For better or worse, I don't see this changing in the near future. Apple does sell competitively priced computers (ie Mini) but they're also limiting the user in regards to upgradability; I don't think anyone can argue the upgrade capabilities of a minitower or tower @ $500 versus a small form factor for $600. Can you upgrade Macs? For the most part, yes, undoubtedly. How far can you upgrade your Mac? That depends on how much you spent upfront on it, deciding between a SFF and a $1,999 Mac Pro tower.

I still love Macs and I enjoy working in OSX, but they really need to get on the 'headless Mac' idea, stat. IMO they could (seemingly overnight) gain at least a 10%+ market share if they released a tower desktop for $600, but that throws a monkey wrench into the rest of their hardware sku lineup, and they're not going to allow that to happen. Unless they kill off the Mini and slash prices on the iMac first, we'll never see a sub-$1,000 Mac in a tower enclosure.

Assuming they release it tomorrow, would it be available at the apple store right away(not the online store)?

Unlikely. It almost always takes time for these to show up at the retail location.

    Glad to hear it:D

Im really stoked to see the Ivy Bridge benchmarks...the i72600k blew my mind:eek: I feel bad for the enthusiast folks who bought a 980x :(

Enthusiasts had the 980 for atleast 6 months now and it's still faster than any sb cpu. Alot of those guys already had x58 mobo's anyway. Now if you purchased a brand new 12 core Mac Pro then then I agree with you.

I disagree. Dolby Digital is no longer reserved for rich ber-geeks. Many "regular Joes" have a Dolby Digital setup now, and you can get a Dolby Digital receiver (all 5 normal channels powered) for under $100.

I think you have to draw a distinction between uber-geeks, also, and people who know what they like but who are not necessarily technophiles. The latter market has always been a core market to Apple. What I mean by that is that I don't think that the cost of the collateral equipment would stop Apple -- say only offering support for nicer TVs -- but I do think complexity could potentially stop them.

Even in this thread, it's clear that the switch from the relatively contained hardware world of Apple Macs and iPods to the TV world is going to be very complicated and confusing to a lot of people. While we're at our Macs, we have the luxury of "It Just Works." With all the different audio and video standards and so on in the TV world, it's not so simple at all.

Reminds me of 1997, when Microsoft was forced to invest $150 million in Apple as part of a settlement of a patent lawsuit, a lot of people couldn't wrap their minds around the idea that Microsoft had actually lost. They did then. Apple did today.

Not really. In both situations, the company that "lost" and paid out also received back some technology for their cash. In the current case there are other reasons why it's an ok deal for Apple beyond just the patent licence.
